Posted: January 5, 2015

On Saturday, the Sheboygan Athletic Club honored several individuals at the annual awards banquet, held at Breaking Bread in Sheboygan.

Taking home the top club award was Wayne Palm, who was presented the prestigious Golden A. The Golden A is to A’s Volunteers what the MVP is to players. Palm has been an integral figure team, working in several capacities at the ball park and taking a lead role in most off-season projects. He was recently elected the club’s Corporate Secretary. The Golden A is a lapel pin from R. Erlien Jewelers.

The Sponsor of the Year Award went to Miesfeld’s Meat Market and was accepted by Chuck Miesfeld. Miesfeld’s is a 45-year sponsor, a 15-year major sponsor and played a key role in the recent A’s scoreboard project.

Special Awards went to announcer Bill Wagner and to Art Imig’s employee Jessica Huenink.

Wagner is in the A’s regular rotation of announces, but who also picked up most rescheduled rainouts, and tournament games. Huenink, of Art Imig’s Clothing Care Center, was responsible for keeping the A’s new uniforms looking new did a 24-7 job as the point person on the first year experiment, which saw the A’s uniforms professional cleaned after each game.

Selected as Fans of the Year were “Grandpa Wayne” and grandson Noah Lohse, who have been at just about every game since Noah has been able to walk.

In addition, Most Dedicated Player Awards were presented to Lars Krugel of the Diamond Dawgs 7th Grade Lakeshore team and to Ashton Smies of the 6th Grade State League team.

The club is well along in preparing for the 2015 season, but the magnitude of the projects is requiring club officials to actively seek new members. Anyone interested in working with the team should email info@sheboyganbaseball.org.
