Willis Named Team MVP; Schwarz Most Valuable Pitcher

Posted: January 5, 2015

Colin Willis, who led the Sheboygan A’s in batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, stolen bases and triples, was named the A’s 2014 MVP on Saturday at the annual awards banquet, held at Breaking Bread in Sheboygan. Willis also won the leading hitter award with his .403 batting average. His eight triples last season set a single season record.

In addition to a plaque, Willis received the MVP ring donated by Ron Erlien of R. Erlien Jewelers. Willis was also the batting champion of the Langsdorf League and co-Most Valuable player of the Notheastern Wisconsin League.

Taylor Schwarz took home Most Valuable Pitcher honors. Schwarz went 9-1 with two shutouts, a save and a no-hitter. He had a 2.23 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP to win the award for the second straight year.

Shortstop Eric Solberg was elected the Defensive Most Valuable Player.

Skipper Tyler Martin presented his Manager’s Award to Cole Miklavcic who hit .333 and the Sine Qua Non Award went to Mitch Gardner who led the team in winning percentage, 1.000 (4-0 with two shutouts) and earned run average 1.47.

The club is well along in preparing for the 2015 season, but the magnitude of the projects is requiring club officials to actively seek new members. Anyone interested in working with the team should email info@sheboyganbaseball.org.
