A’s 16-2 Victory Clinches #2 Seed in NEWBL Playoffs

Posted: July 30, 2015

GREEN BAY – Two-, two-, three- and two-run innings gave them a comfortable lead and a 7-run
inning gave them another comfortable win
and let everybody go home early once again.

Ten
Green Bay Storm errors helped the red-hot A’s to a 16-2 victory here Wednesday
night. It marked their sixth straight victory – five of which have caused
umpires to enforce the Mercy Rule and send the teams home early. Those wins were 13-3 over Oshkosh, 11-1 over
Kenosha, 12-2 over West Bend, 10-0 over Manitowoc and 16-2 over Green Bay.

Menasha’s
come-from behind win over Oshkosh last night clinched the pennant for the Macs,
and the A’s win guaranteed them a second place finish in the league regardless
of the outcome of their game  in Appleton
tonight. Menasha’s win finishes the Macs
regular season at 16-4. A’s are 14-5 and Appleton 12-7.

The
first round playoff pairings Sunday find #6 Manitowoc at  #3 Appleton
and #5 Green Bay at #4 Oshkosh. The winner with the highest seed plays at #2 Sheboygan  Tuesday night and the other
winner plays at #1 Menasha.

Last
night Brandon Winfield went the distance, recording 13 strikeouts.

While
Green Bay’s 10 errors stood as the highlight of the A’s offense, the club did
rack up a dozen hits. Harry Steldt was 4-for-5 with a double and a home run,
Blake Fleischman had three hits, Dan Barwick a single and triple and Wyatt
Olson a double and single.

The A’s close out the regular season tonight in Appleton. Tuesday’s NEWBL semi-final game will be at 7:30 PM at Wildwood Baseball Park. The first 100 fans through the gates will receive a Sheboygan A’s rally towel courtesy of Mountain Promotions.
