SHEBOYGAN – With
Menasha taking game one on Thursday, it put the A’s in a hole. Down 0-1 in the
best-of-three series, the teams headed to Sheboygan for game two on Saturday
night. The A’s came into the contest feeling confident as they posted a 23-5
overall record at home this season. Facing elimination, A’s skipper Derek
Loomans called upon veteran right-hander Taylor Schwarz to lead the charge.

In a heart-throbbing game, the Menasha Macs held off the
Sheboygan A’s by the score of 4-3 and claimed the 2015 Northeastern Wisconsin
League Championship.

Schwarz did all he could do to give his A’s an opportunity
to extend the series. He exited the game after throwing seven complete innings,
striking out eight.

Menasha struck first in the third inning with an RBI single
off the bat of Griffin Jack, scoring Nathan Jack who reached via dropped third
strike. Sheboygan answered back in the fifth with a no-doubter off the bat of
Wyatt Olson, that evened the score at one a piece.

The Macs retook their lead in the top half of the 6th thanks to an RBI double from Mitchell Buss. Adding to their lead in the 7th,
Menasha plated a run off an RBI base hit from Josiah Boucher. After seven
complete, the A’s saw themselves facing a 3-1 deficit.

In the 8th, Sheboygan mustered a rally and tied
the game after RBI singles from Dylan Detert and Dan Barwick. The A’s had the
opportunity to take the lead but Mac ace Jason Wierschke struck out Olson and
Steldt to get out of the jam.

After a uncharacteristic throwing error by Taylor Grimm in the top of the 9th, the
Macs regained their lead. The A’s had five costly errors throughout the game,
ultimately costing them in a big way. Menasha held the A’s scoreless in the
bottom half to become the Champions of the NEWBL.

Blake Fleischman, Hayden Fenner, Taylor Grimm, Weston Nelson
and Carter Amundsen all recorded two hits.

The loss concludes the 2015 season for the A’s, finishing
the year with a 33-18 record.
