Denny Moyer Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

Sheboygan A’s General Manager Denny Moyer was honored last
week by the United Way of Sheboygan County with the Lifetime Achievement Award
for his work with the A’s over the last 50+ years.

The award was presented during the Spirit of Sheboygan
Volunteer Awards at Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan.

When asked what motivates him to give back through
volunteering, Moyer says it’s a simple matter of payback.

“When I was a kid all I wanted to do was play baseball.  And there was always somebody there giving me
an opportunity.  Al Willers, Gottlieb
Pfister, Bob Griffith, La Mont Meerdink, Snipe Van Veghel, Al Wegner and Chuck
Zeichert to name a few.  I was always
grateful for that and I just feel that the best way to repay them is to do what
I can to see that the young players who really want to play continue to have
the opportunity.  Sounds simple, but if I
can create for them just a few of the friendships and a few of the memories
that I have shared through baseball, teach them a few of the lessons I have
learned, my effort will have been rewarded,” Moyer said.

Moyer has been with the club since its inception in 1962 and
has held the position of GM ever since and has had dozens of honors bestowed
upon him over the years.

“It would be phony humility not to admit that I felt honored
to have been selected, but just as honestly I can say that it was great to see
our club gain some recognition. We have done so much.”

Moyer lists two key items that he is the most proud of:
Creating the Sheboygan Athletic Club and helping sustain it through the years,
and being part of the creation of the Wisconsin State League.

“But probably the most gratifying this is all the
friendships I have gained through baseball,” Moyer said.
