A’s Beat Plymouth in WABC Opener

Posted: July 16, 2016

Weston Nelson contributed five strong innings and Harry Steldt kept his streak alive as the Sheboygan A’s posted a 5-2 victory over the Plymouth Flames.

Nelson scattered six hits and struck out five. He goes to 4-0 for the season.

Steldt walked three times and got a base hit against Plymouth and now has reached first base safely 12 straight times.

Several Plymouth errors and key hits by Taylor Grimm and Mitch McConnell got the A’s off to an early lead. The Flames comeback attempts were thwarted by Dylan Detert’s diving catch in left field and reliever AJ Alessi’s game ending strikeout. Alessi picked up a save for the A’s.

Grimm and McConnell had two hits for the A’s. Zach Cain had a pair for Plymouth.

Appleton shut out Two Rivers 6-0 in last night’s second game. Today at noon Plymouth plays , Clyman and the Milwaukee Beavers in a doubleheader. Following that the A’s will play two against the same teams. The schedule called for the Plymouth games to start at 12 and 2:30; the A’s games at 5 and 7:30 p.m.

The survivor of today’s action plays for the championship at West Bend Sunday.
