Posted: June 12, 2017

A pair of Saturday beauties were nullified by a pair of Sunday heart-breakers as the Sheboygan A’s split their home and home weekend doubleheaders with the Kenosha Kings.

The A’s won 4-3 and 11-1 in Sheboygan Saturday and lost 4-2 and 3-2  in Kenosha Sunday. The results leave the A’s at 4-3 in the Wisconsin State League and 8-3 overall going into Tuesday night’s game against Appleton. Tuesday is Midwest Communications night. Tickets are available at the Washington Avenue radio station office.

Saturday, Game 1 – Harry Steldt led off the bottom of the final seventh inning with a home run to tie the game at three and moments later Hunter Berry singled in the winning run with a base hit up the middle to give the A’s 4-3 win. Josh Moses had three hits to lead the A’s with Tanner Reklaitis getting the win in relief.

Saturday, Game 2 – The A’s coasted to a mercy rule win with Moses, Adam Ryan and Berry each getting three hits and Kyle Peterson getting a pair. Taylor Schwartz held Kenosha to just two hits in six innings to get the win.

Sunday, Game 1 – Kenosha broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of sixth when Paul Pulera doubled in the game-inning runs. Steldt, Mitch Sutton and Berry had two hits for the A’s. Kenosha’s three double plays took the A’s out of scoring opportunities. A’s starter Remy Wilke left the game after the fifth inning trailing 2-1, but Joe Vyskocil’s hit tied it in the sixth.  Pulera’s 2-out, 2-run hit gave Kenosha two runs take the lead and the win as the A’s had two runners on in the seventh, but couldn’t score them.

Sunday, Game 2 – Steldt had three hits to lead the A’s, but Kenosha pulled out the win in the bottom of the seventh when Travis VanderWall singled in the winning run.
