A’s Split Doubleheader With Braves on Saturday

Posted: June 18, 2017

ADDISON, IL – For the second time in three games, the A’s pitching staff held their opponent to a single hit. Unfortunately for the A’s, their offense wasn’t up to the task in game one, and the A’s fell 1-0 in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Addison Braves. The A’s bounced back in game two, claiming a 6-5 victory to salvage a split of the doubleheader.

Braves pitcher Chris Wido held the A’s scoreless while striking out one and giving up five hits to earn the game one victory.

On the short side of things was John VanderPloeg, who pitched five innings, striking out two.

Josh Moses did most of the damage on offense for the A’s, going 3-3 in the losing effort.

In game two, the offenses for both teams turned it up a notch. It came down to the final inning when the A’s took a 6-4 lead in the top of the seventh. The Braves responded with one in the bottom of the seventh but left the tying run in scoring position to end the game.

Brady Nehring pitched the complete game victory, striking out nine in the seven-inning outing.

Cole Miklavcic had three hits to pace the A’s at the plate, while Taylor Grimm went 2-3 with four RBI’s.

The Braves and A’s are back at it again on Sunday for another doubleheader, beginning at 1 PM.
