Posted: July 9, 2017

SHEBOYGAN, WI- The A’s split their doubleheader Saturday, defeating the Addsion Braves before falling to the Lombard Orioles in the Wisconsin State League Challenge being held mostly at Wildwood Park.

In game one, pitcher Taylor Schwarz pitched a shut-out against the Addison Braves to help the A’s collect the 3-0 win. Schwarz struck five and only allowed five hits on the day.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Taylor Schwarz struck out five, while Eric Ryan sat down two.

The A’s took the lead in the second inning after an error scored one run. The A’s then scored two more runs in the fifth to secure the win.

Harry Steldt and Joe Vyskocil lead the statistics at the plate each collecting two singles, however, positive at-bats seemed somewhat hard to find in game two.

In game two, the A’s took on the Lombard Orioles and struck first, being the first team to score, but were unable to score the rest of the game.

The Orioles were able to score in the fourth as well, but ultimately captured the 9-1 victory after a big fifth inning in which they collected a total of six runs. This inning included two home runs by Mike Mateja and Dylan Gilberts.

Rodney Valdez took the loss for the A’s after pitching four innings, striking out six and allowing four runs.

The only true bright spot for the A’s at the plate was a double by Mark Wanner.

The A’s are back at home tonight to take on the Kenosha Kings as play continues in the WSL Challenge at Wildwood Baseball Park.
