A’s fight back, but lose at Appleton

APPLETON, WI- For the second straight game, the Sheboygan A’s got off to a bad start, but this time they got back in the game, only to lose when Courtney Watkins doubled in two runs to give the Appleton Legends an 8-7 win.

Appleton took a 6-0 lead after three innings, but some good at-bats by Adam Ryan and Jake Arens closed the gap to 6-2. Then the A’s took advantage of walks, hit batsmen and big hits by Harry Steldt and Chris Saltzman to score five runs and take a 7-6 lead.

However, this lead was short-lived as the Legends and Watkins delivered in the next inning, taking the lead back and ultimately taking the victory.

Now with a 19-12 record, the A’s host Green Bay tonight and then on Friday and Saturday host a Wisconsin Amateur Baseball Classic quarterfinal. The schedule for the tournament is as follows:

Friday, 7:30 – Sheboygan vs. Rubicon. Saturday, 12 noon – Pewaukee vs. Rubicon. Saturday, 2:30 p.m. – Rubicon vs. West Allis Nighthawks. Saturday, 5 p.m. – Sheboygan vs. Pewaukee. Saturday, 7:30 p.m. – Sheboygan vs West Allis Nighthawks

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
