Elsing, Gardner Earn Victories in Doubleheader Sweep of Oshkosh

Posted: July 20, 2017

OSHKOSH, WI- Except for the lightning, high winds and rain that resulted in a half hour delay, day one of the Sheboygan A’s 16 games in 11 days stretch could not have ended better.

The A’s swept the Oshkosh Giants 12-5 and 9-2 at Oshkosh Wednesday night.

“The Stretch” continues tonight when the A’s host the De Pere Dodgers at Wildwood Park at 7:30 PM.

The right arms of Austen Elsing, Weston Nelson and Mitch Gardner provided the victories that kept the A’s still within striking distance of the Lombard Orioles in the Wisconsin State League.

Making his first career start with the A’s, Elsing had 4 2/3 innings in and a 12-4 lead when lightning became visible and the game was put on hold. Nelson finished throwing 2 1/3 innings of one-run baseball. Logan Reckert had three hits and Mitch Sutton and Zac Cain both two for the A’s.

Gardner gave the A’s a much-needed complete game in game two. The A’s scored in every inning except for the fourth in the cruising to the 9-2 win.

Chris Saltzman had triple and single, Josh Moses a single, double and sacrifice fly, and Grant Kosanke two hits.

The wins put the A’s only 4.5 games behind Lombard, with a looming four-game series with the Orioles coming this weekend. But first, the A’s need to take care of business with the Dodgers at home this evening.

Tonight is Bang For Your Buck Night, with Bud Light beer being $1 off.
