Lombard in Driver’s Seat after Taking Three from A’s

Posted: July 24, 2017

SHEBOYGAN, WI- Once again the Lombard Orioles showed who’s boss in the Wisconsin State Baseball League.

The Orioles took three of four from the A’s over the weekend to eliminate any of the A’s championship thoughts. Only Kenosha has a chance, as the Orioles need to win only two more games to clinch their 14th straight title.

Lombard is 21-4 in the 30 game schedule, Kenosha is 14-8. Sheboygan 16-10.

Taylor Schwarz kept the A’s hopes alive with a 3-0 victory in the first game of the series. The win put him at 7-0 for the season and it was his fourth shutout. Zac Cain doubled in the third inning and scored on Harry Stout’s two-out single. Joe Vyskocil and Mark Wanner drove in insurance runs.

After that, the weekend was all Lombard’s.

Despite Chris Saltzman’s 4-for-4 performance, Lombard won game two Saturday, 4-2, and swept the A’s on Sunday, 14-4 and 5-0. On Sunday, the Orioles took the lead in the first inning of both games and the A’s were unable to make up the deficit.

The A’s play in Menasha tonight, a doubleheader in De Pere Tuesday night and return home Wednesday to take on West Allis.
