Reckert’s Double Gives A’s Walk-off Win

Posted: August 3, 2017

SHEBOYGAN, WI- Sheboygan A’s general manager Denny Moyer is sticking to his story.

“Something happened Monday,” he said.

Something happened Wednesday night, too.

The A’s trailed the West Allis Nationals by a 6-2 score going into the final seventh-inning of Wisconsin Class A State Tournament Wednesday night and scored five runs to take the 7-6 victory. A base hit and five walks set up Reckert’s game-winning double.

This win pits the A’s (31-22) against the Kenosha Kings at 7 p.m. Friday night. Kenosha took a 2-0 game from De Pere Wednesday night.

Kyle Moyer, Weston Nelson and John Vander Ploeg all worked on the mound for the A’s with Vander Ploeg getting the win.

On Monday night the A’s defeated the Green Bay Storm, 18-0. It was the final game in a stretch that saw the A’s play 16 games in 11 days.

“The team was tired, beat up, pitchers arms were numb; and on top of it all it seemed that every break in the games went to the other team,” Moyer said. “Then came the big win.  It was amazing to see. Everybody contributed, everybody congratulated everybody else, everybody was confident that whatever teammate was the plate would come through. They were having fun and everybody contributed.”

“There’s no question in my mind that they became a team that day.”
