A’s One-Hit the Nationals to Move to 3-0 on the Season

Posted: May 30, 2018

Sheboygan, WI – As it turns out, even a rusty Taylor Schwarz is better than most pitchers.

The A’s reigning Most Valuable Pitcher had a little bit of rust in his 2018 debut, getting into a bases-loaded jam in the top of the first. When all was said and done, he allowed only one hit to the opening batter of the game, struck out four and walked three over six innings to help the A’s pick up a 7-1 victory over the visitors from West Allis.

The A’s big offensive inning came in the bottom of the fourth. Ryan Fields started the inning by reaching on an error. Ryan Norton then singled, allowing Fields to make it all the way to third. Jake Arens then came to the plate and cleared the bases with a single to right center. Later in the inning, Mark Wanner grounded into a fielder’s choice that allowed for Arens and Christian McKelvey to score, increasing the A’s lead to 7-1.

Arens led the club with three RBI in the game, to go along with two hits. Norton also collected two hits in the contest.

Austin Fox and Austin Wager combined to pitch the final three innings, with Fox picking up three strikeouts and Wagner five.

The A’s have announced a schedule change for tonight. With the unfortunate dissolving of the Manitowoc Bandits last week, who were supposed to play the Cleveland Wildcats tonight at Wildwood Park prior to the A’s hosting the Plymouth Flames, the A’s will now step in and play a doubleheader tonight. The A’s will play Cleveland at approximately 6:30 PM, followed by a game with Plymouth. It’s a College Night tonight, where any college students with their college ID can get tickets at half price.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels). All Sheboygan A's home games are played at Wildwood Baseball Park in Sheboygan. Connect with the A's on FacebookTwitterInstagram and YouTube.
