Four Veterans Return to A’s

Posted: May 3, 2019

Four returnees have been added to the roster for the 2019 season. These returnees will be leaned on to lead the A’s to a couple of championships.

Added to the 2019 roster are veterans Harry Steldt, Eric Schmitz, Jake Arens and Mark Wanner.

The staple of the middle of the batting order for the last eight seasons, Steldt returns for his ninth in 2019. The UW-Stevens Point alum is coming off an impressive offensive season that saw him hit seven home runs, and bat .356 in 56 games. The A’s reigning team MVP will again be a fixture in Manager Derek Looman’s batting order.

Another key returner is the A’s 2018 Most Valuable Pitcher, Eric Schmitz. The UW-Whitewater alum won his second team MV-Pitcher award this offseason. He brings a career 24-7 record to the A’s, with 288 strikeouts posted in just 258 innings pitched. Last season he went 6-2 with a 2.31 ERA in 11 games (10 starts).

The A’s offensive leader for much of 2018, Marian University infielder Jake Arens is returning for his third season with the club. Ares took a big step forward in his development last season, improving from a .211 batting average in year one, to a whopping .345 average in year two. Arens hit a team-leading 15 doubles last season, and chipped in three home runs and 27 RBI in 45 games.

The 2019 Sheboygan A’s season, presented by Meijer, begins Saturday, May 25, at Wildwood Park against the Kewaskum A’s at 12:30 p.m. Opening Day, presented by CITGO, also features the A’s 5th Annual 5K Home Run/Walk in the morning, and a post-game concert by Cold Soda Club. Race participants will receive a ticket to the game and concert, while game attendees will also get the concert for free. The A’s are now accepting group reservations for the tailgate pavilion, Advanced Comfort Systems Skybox, and the brand new Bud Light Party Deck.
