A’s Blank Bandits 5-0 in Season Opener

Manitowoc, WI – Many of the A’s players were meeting each other for the very first time just three hours before the game.

There hadn’t been any pre-season practices due to the Covid-19 situation to allow some of the team to get to know one another. That didn’t stop the A’s, as they took down Manitowoc 5-0 on the road to open the 2020 campaign. The 2020 season is presented by Meijer.

Manager Tim Moyer, making his managerial debut, got his first official win as the A’s bench boss.

Reigning co-Most Valuable Pitcher Eric Schmitz got the start for the A’s. He pitched the first four innings before turning it over to the bullpen to finish off the group shutout.

As was to be expected, the A’s showed some signs of rust throughout the contest, as players were seeing their first live pitching in months, and some since last summer.

The A’s took a 1-0 lead after the top of the second inning when 2017 team MVP Josh Moses crossed the plate for the A’s first run of the season. The team added two runs each in the sixth and seventh to push their lead to 5-0 and secure the victory.

The club now sits idle until Tuesday, when they will face the West Allis Nationals on the road in an exhibition contest. The game will be played at Beaumont Field in Burlington, WI as the Nationals aren’t allowed at their home park this summer due to local Covid-19 restrictions. Game time is set for 7:30 PM.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
