Blue Ribbons Use 6-Run Fourth to Trounce A’s

Although the A’s were unable to come out with a win against the Greater Green Bay Blue Ribbons, nothing can beat an 80 degree summer night paired with a game of baseball at Wildwood Park in Sheboygan. The A’s hosted Greater Green Bay on Wednesday night, a familiar matchup as this was the team they played and defeated for their 2020 season home opener. Over three hours of play on Wednesday night resulted in a final score of 9-3.

A’s starting pitcher Tyler Peccioli made a statement in the first inning when he struck out the side to kick off the game. Similar to Sheboygan’s defense, offense proved to be effective early when Mark Wanner and Ross Krist both singled in the first inning to get on base. Harry Steldt hit a ground ball and reached first base on an error, but Krist was able to score putting the A’s on the board. Greater Green Bay fought back quickly when Sam Kohnle hit a solo homer in the top of the second and tied the score 1-1.

Shane Ryan, TD Walker, and Ross Krist all drew walks in the second inning which brought Nathan Ebersole up to the plate. When Ebersole got hit by a pitch, it scored a run which gave Sheboygan a one-run lead.

The Blue Ribbons made a lot of noise in the top of the fourth inning, scoring six runs. Following Kohnle’s walk to begin the inning, Zach Ziesmer hit a double which advanced Kohnle to third and eventually scored on a passed ball. With the score tied, another passed ball and a 2-RBI double single by Eric Modaff scored three runs for Green Bay. The Blue Ribbons had a 5-2 lead when Peccioli exited the game after completing 3.1 innings, giving up five runs, striking out eight, and walking three. Noah Imrie came in to pitch and Greater Green Bay scored two more runs in the inning, one on an RBI single and one on a wild pitch.

In the top of the 6th inning, Jackson Pothast came in to pitch for Imrie, giving up three hits, two runs before giving way to Mitch Gardner. Another pitching change was made in the 7th inning when Billy McConnell took the mound. Josh Gates pitched as well, and Vaughn Williston marked the A’s 7th and final pitcher for the night.

A bottom of the 9th inning solo home run hit by Jacob Neese gave the A’s their final score of the game.

Zach Watzka and Mitchell Bendickson pitched for Greater Green Bay, Watzka gave up three hits, two runs and had two strikeouts. Bendickson gave up four hits, one run and had six strikeouts. Greater Green Bay gave up 7 hits to Sheboygan and tallied 14 of their own.

The A’s hit the road Thursday to face Kewaskum in West Bend. The 2020 season is presented by Meijer.
