Sheboygan Press Article - The Sheboygan A's final home game of the 2008 season is scheduled for Wednesday at Wildwood Baseball Park.
Sheboygan will play the Manitowoc Bandits in the second game of the best-of-three Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League Championship playoffs at 7:30 p.m. The series opens tonight at Manitowoc. Game 3, if necessary, will be played at Manitowoc
A's general manager Denny Moyer is hoping for a big turnout from Sheboygan baseball fans in what will be the team's most important home game of the season. Depending on what happens in tonight's game, the A's can either clinch the championship Wednesday or force a decisive third game.
"I'd like to see a big crowd," Moyer said. "These kids have given us a tremendous season and they deserve a good show of support, of gratitude for their effort. Not only that, but it has been a tough season financially for us and we need a good gate and concessions night. We really need a big crowd."
Manitowoc finished one game in front of Sheboygan in the league's regular-season standings.
A's pitcher Cody Griebling is scheduled to start tonight. He is 7-0 with three shutouts and a pair of saves, and has a 0.79 earned run average.
One of the best hitting clubs in A's history, manager Chad Gehr's team has no less than nine everyday or alternating players hitting .300 or better.
Shawn Wozniak is at .416, followed by Tim Patzman (.377), Grant Berkovitz (.362), Lucas Wilsing (.336), Jordan Rennicke (.333), Kreston Albright (.331), Phil Kramsky (.321), Tim Salm (.317) and Matt Schilter (.300).
Wozniak has a team-best six home runs. Patzman has already broken the club's doubles record (28,) and also leads in hits (89. Berkovitz leads in runs batted in (54).
Notes: The Sheboygan Athletic Club's bust-up golf outing and dinner is Saturday at Town and Country. Fans are encouraged to participate and should contact Scott Stangel at 459-5640 ext. 327. Cost is $75 per golfers which includes greens fees, cart, lunch, dinner, beverage tickets and raffle tickets.
Friday is the deadline to sign up for the Sheboygan Day at Miller Park excursion. The trip is Monday, Sept. 1 (Labor Day). Cost is $42, which includes coach transportation, ticket and tailgate party.
