OPENING DAY CEREMONIES PLANNED
2009-06-05
On Monday the Sheboygan A’s will open their 47th season at Wildwood Park in a game against Northeastern Wisconsin League opponent the Menasha Macs. Prior to the 7:30 game, Mayor Robert Ryan will join club officials to celebration the retirement of the club’s mortgage on Wildwood Park.
In 1997 the Sheboygan Athletic Club borrowed $105,000 to construct the grandstand, press box and skybox at Wildwood Park. Many club members as well as the community were involved in the project. Several, including former mayor Richard Schneider, will be recognized during the on field ceremonies prior to the game.
This event will commemorate only one of the Sheboygan Athletic Club’s investments in baseball for the Sheboygan community. In its 47-year run it is estimated the club has raised more than $750,000 for improvements to Wildwood Park and Legion Field where the A’s baseball began. In addition the club has given back to Sheboygan by supporting high school baseball, the Legion program, and the creation of the Diamonds youth baseball organization.
Immediately following the mortgage retirement, Mayor Robert Ryan will open the 2009 home season by throwing out the first pitch. The pre-game program will get under way at about 7:15 p.m.
